King's Cross question for Londoners
« on: September 04, 2006, 12:44:16 PM »
On Thursday I have to get from King's Cross underground to King's Cross ThamesLink. Is anyone familiar with that? I know I tried to do it a couple of years ago and got hopelessly lost. I know there's supposed to be a tunnel connecting the two, but I seem to recall wandering aimlessly above ground looking like an idiot. Can anyone give me clear directions, please? Think 'Big Cities for Dummies.'  :-\\\\

I haven't done that for ages but seem to remember leaving the main Kings Cross station and going around the corner to the Thameslink. Don't remember a direct tunnel but I may be wrong.

That was part of my commute for 6 years ... happy memories!!???

Kings X is a big station, with lots of potential for confusion ...

If you are arriving at Kings X on the Piccaddilly/Northern/Victoria lines, there is a long tunnel to get you over to the Thameslink station  - 'just' follow the signs.

If you are arriving at Kings X on the Circle/Metropolitan lines or by national rail (at the mainline station),  it's easier to walk out of the station up to street level and follow signs east along Pentonville Road - it's about a 5 mins walk.

You'll get there no problem - hey, if you need a break, there's a great little Greek Cypriot run cafe just past the Thameslink station on Pentonville Road!

Well, that explains why I couldn't find the tunnel the last time I was there! I'll was on the Circle line -- and will be again this week. Sounds more or less manageable. Thanks so much for the advice! The Greek cafe sounds fantastic, but I'll be on my way to meet relatives and probably shouldn't dally -- though I'd much rather wander around cafes and shops than spend two days with relatives.  :-X

There's quite a bit of building work going on at the moment - I was there yesterday - but it is very well signposted these days, in preparation for the new Eurotunnel terminal.  You'll be fine.
