First post and topic!

I just thought I would de-virginize this page!  ;D

Fitting since it's only me and Scrumpy who actually are Re-pats.  But she's in bed so I get first crack at it!  Woohoo!

So what to say about repatriation...hmmm......It's not as difficult as leaving, but it's still an adjustment.  Probably more so than you'd think.

There!

I now declare this page - Open!  [smiley=crown.gif]

Ode To Repatriation
Ode to repatriation

When bidding farewell to the land of the scone
When packing your bags and heading off home
When riding the planes and crossing the seas
When feeling “the heat” at 60 degrees
When shopping for food can seem like a treat
As you’re buying the brands you “used to” eat
When missing the nightlife and where you might be
And God you would kill for a good cup of tea
When radio stations no longer play sh**e
When the cars on the road, they finally look right
When drinking your coffee and seeing your friends
When getting ID’d at the bars you attend
When longing for Boots and advantage card points
When feeling the dampness dissolve from your joints
When adding the tax once again is expected
When Guinness and you feel somehow connected
The sound of your voice no longer gets stares
You’re surprised if someone you meet doesn’t swear
No hopping on buses to go to the store
And ordering takeout is not such a chore
When working is something you actually miss
When jumping a cab can seem like bliss
When adjusting to things you thought that you knew
Is something you never expected to do
When loving your “buddies” and missing your “mates”
Expect it all if you repatriate

APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE.....  love the poem.

Love the poem as well!  When I returned to the states the first time after studying here for a year I knew the three things I would never miss would be:

1.  Posh, Becks, and Brooklyn

2.  Robbie Williams and his ego

3.  The pants music on the radio!

Unfortunatly, now that I live here, I can't say I wasn't warned....... [smiley=evilgrin.gif]

:D Of course!

And to everyone else above, thank you!  I'm glad you all liked it!  That's what comes from being bored at 1:00 in the morning!  :P

BTW Glasgow Girl I agree with you entirely on the Posh & Becks thing!  But I like Robbie Williams!  I think most of his ego-ness is just staged anyway.  I really didn't like him at first, but he grew on me.  :)

I personally feel bad for the Beckhams, the media gives them such a rough time, Victoria seems like a really nice person, a real and vulnerable person. I think they're being picked on.

Robbie Williams however is vile and horrid. I do not understand what women could see in him, he's nothing near attractive, and just vile.  [smiley=mean.gif]

I stand by my liking of Robbie.

The only thing the Beckham's did that I liked was that interview with Ali G.  Did anyone see that?  I admit, that was funny.  :)

I must confess, I like Robbie too.   No use for Becks, though.  Can't stand athletes.

Becks is a damn good footballer though.  I know almost nothing about the sport (still don't understand off sides) and even I can tell that!  :)

Gotta give him his credit where it's due.  Except he plays for "bloody Manchester United" as my friend Liz would say.  Nobody's perfect I guess.

Becks is definitely a great footballer, he's really proved himself. Especially since his big foible of getting sent off and becoming Englands greatest enemy. Though I can't remember if that happened at the last World Cup or the European Championships. Seems the World Cup. Speaking of, I expect/hope everyone takes an interest in how America does at the World Cup this summer!  [smiley=beadyeyes.gif] I am very excited, looking forward to it. :)

Another great footballer is Michael Owen, if I were a decade younger I'd put him in my "muffin mix". lol
If it doesn't make sense, ask Audrey to explain.  ;)

I knew a girl who was madly in love with Michael Owen.  He was definately in her Muffin Mix.  Not really my type though.  Now if we were talkin' Patrick Berger... [smiley=blush.gif] :-* [smiley=love.gif] :P
