Favourite TV FOOD Show Chef - Presenter
« on: September 26, 2006, 10:06:49 PM »
I really get into the mood to cook this time of year.  It's made me miss all of the cookery shows in the UK and the many, many charismatic TV chefs/presenters.

I  know that there are many that I've not listed, and that there most likely are some new faces that I don't  know about.  However, I limited the number of choices otherwise it would be too large.

It's hard to choose just one, but I voted for The Two Fat Ladies.  I loved that show.  Their obvious and pure love of food and witty banter, mixed with a bit of history, made it highly entertaining to me!

Cheers and bon appetite!   ;)

I've voted for Nigel Slater though I've only seen a little of his TV work. His books, however, I love. He's so passionate about food and writes so well about it. He's my favorite writer even though he has a few favorite flavors that I am really not fond of (bay leaf and anise to name 2). They turn up in so many of his recipes. Nigella would be my second favorite probably. And my least favorite is undoubtedly Gary Rhodes. I can't stand watching him though I don't mind his books!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I love Nigel Slater books, too!  I've got three of them.  The recipes and his instructions/ the way writes is as though he's speaking right to you, telling you what to do next.  :)

I voted "other" - I like the Italian guy Gino di Campo, he's cute! and he did that series on Mexican cooking. I also like Reza Mahammad, he is SO camp and entertaining!

I chose Two Fat Ladies.  That has to be one of my favourite cooking shows of all time, and I really love cooking shows.

Just watching how much they loved what they were doing was inspirational.

He's hilarious! Did you see A Place in France when he tried to help that guy start an Indian restaurant? Too funny!

I chose Other.  There will always be a special place in my heart for Julia Child.  Especially when she was being a bit irreverent - whacking a fish in half with a huge cleaver, putting a bit of food back on the plate after it had fallen on the floor ("they'll never know"), or 'sampling' the wine while cooking.  Miss her so much.

Ooo...that's another great one, somehow I hadn't even thought of her.

I voted for 'Two Fat Ladies' as well.  They were such a hoot to watch...my mother and I used to count how many recipes included bacon!  ;D

(There used to be a sandwich shop in the Grassmarket in Edinburgh called 'Two Thin Laddies'...haven't been yet and not sure if it's even still around, but just thinking about it makes me smile!)
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Here's another thread where we talked about this!
http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=24431.0

I think i voted Nigella and/or Jamie at the time, but i have recently got into Nigel Slater as well... he's not on TV often, but writes in papers and magazines, and i recently got one of his books, which is brilliant.  :)

I used to enjoy watching Keith Floyd, so obviously a boozer of extraordinary proportions.  Amazing to me he never actually fell over during any of his shows.

NO missed that one. I love his Coconut Coast series, you can almost smell the food!

Just found this:

http://www.capelland.com/clients/Reza_Mahammad.html

He has a restaurant in Fulham! I haven't been there but I have been to the other one they mention - Veeraswamy - which was his father's restaurant.

NO missed that one.

It was originally on Channel 4 but now repeats pretty often on one of the Discovery channels. Haven't seen Coconut Coast, sounds fab!

I chose Other as well. I like alot of the celeb chefs, based on different foods, variety, etc..

Ainsley does some great quick and easy meals. I love James Martin for his puddings and he's a cutie. Gordon is the one if you want something delicious, a bit different, and you have some time on your hands. Rick Stein when I'm in the mood for seafood, etc.., and I really like his show on BBC 2. I like Jamie Oliver, think he's done some great things with kids school dinners, etc.., and I've used some of his recipes. Gary Rhodes is one of my faves, watched alot of his programmes on UKTV Food. His voice and his calm way of cooking relax me. ( I know, that is just weird, lol. ) ;D

I must add, and I've admitted this on another thread, I have had a crush on a few of these presenters. Especially Gary and James! :)

Seriously though, I do love to cook and I love the cooking shows here. Really into Celeb MasterChef at the moment. I also have the new cookbook by Tana Ramsay ( Gordon's wife ) and it looks good so far. Hoping to try out a few of the recipes shortly..

That's true!  They wrapped bacon around everything! I enjoyed watching them as well.
