cheap flights.
« on: September 08, 2006, 02:50:49 PM »
Well Chris is in the Military and our plan was for him to come out for Christmas before he deployed so he could get to know the kids some more, as he will be away for 6 months. HE has never met the kids face to face, adn they really need this time to bond.

Anyway he calls me yesterday and tells me his command wont let him come to the UK in case any bomb threats happen again and is unable to make is back to the USA to deploy with the rest of his unit.

My kids really need to see theri dad, the only other option is for me and the kids to fly to see him, but w e are really on a tight budjet. I know Christmas is an expensive time to travel

I just need some info, we always travel with American Airlines, but i wanted to now who you travell with. Any other Airlines you use.

Or you know of any that have regular deals. We wont be going unntil 20/21 december and returning 3rd January From Manchester to Lafayette Louisiana.

I am just so upset right now, as we constantly keep having to change plans becasue the military keep doing stuff like this. I understand their point, but it is doint no good for our family, and the kids are desperate to see him.

i find the best way for checking flights is www.kayak.com.  you can choose alternative airports, alternative dates, times of depatures, arrival, etc.  unforutnatly, you really are choosing to fly at a very expensive time.  any way you can be more flexible with your dates?

The cheapest flights we could find were for 12 December (Gatwick to Raleigh) via American Airlines for about £320, I think.  I think you'll have to be more flexible with your dates in order to get the best deal.  The 12th was the cheapest departure date by far -- every other day was at least twice the price.  I think we're returning on the 28th.

you're not going to like this but the cheapest i could find from MAN - LFT or Lake Charles or Ryan, leaving 20 or 21 Dec, returning 3 Jan = $1258.

Can you leave around 12-Dec and come back b/f Xmas?

My husband says that's definitely true. But I just searched for it and they're pretty expensive, maybe you have to wait till it's closer to christmas.

I haven't flown on christmas day but I have flown the day after christmas and I can't remember the cost of it but I do remember the plane was practically empty so that would suggest prices would be lower I think.

I flew to the states on Christmas day last year.  While it wasn't exactly dirt cheap, it was much less expensive than any of the other days during the Christmas season.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.
