Loan stalled . . . heeeeelp!!
« on: September 15, 2006, 04:44:49 AM »
Hi guys.  I really need some advice.  I've been working on getting my Stafford squared away for a good three months now.  I leave in exactly 11 days, and I don't have my entry clearance or my ticket yet.

What's happened is that I sent a fax to the lady at my school who does Stafford loans with everything she needed.  I sent it on the Friday before Labor Day at the beginning of this month.  All she had to do was get the school certification signed and send it to my loan people.  I called on Tuesday of this week, 12 September, and the loan people have not received anything.

I emailed her yesterday, expecting a prompt reply as before, but she has not emailed me back.  I need the loan letter to get my Entry Clearance, and I don't want to buy my ticket before I have my entry clearance in hand.  I had planned to do the entry clearance by mail.  But I have 11 days left and I don't think I have time even to get the darn loan guarantor-ized.  HEEELP!!  What should I do?  I'm really freaking out.

:\\\'( :-X :-[  See? i am not happy guys.  Help me out!!

Thanks,

Relaynie

find a phone number for her or her office and call- find someone who will answer your questions.  It's easy to miss or ignore an email, but not so much a phone call.

I'll tell you, even if she signed the papers today and sent them off, it's unlikely that your loan will be ready in 11 days.  If she sends the paperwork back via airmail, then that's at least 3-4 business days to get to your lender, then your lender has to have your loan guaranteed by a government agency, which will take a few days (and that's only if you're really super on top of things.)  As part of the guarantee process it's likely the guarantor will try to contact your school again, so if your loan person isn't prompt in responding to *that* request, your guarantee (and thus loan approval) will be delayed.  It took about 2.5-3 weeks for my Stafford loan to be approved after my loan dude sent the paperwork back in.  And of course, visa applications will take about 7-14 days by mail, depending.

I really think you're going to have to push your departure date back, Relaynie, unless you have enough money to apply for the visa (in person) without the loan papers.  Hang in there, I know it's frustrating  :-\\\\

And Andrea was extremely on top of things.  Mine took over 2 months to come through because I didn't push hard enough (well, I didn't realise where it was stuck for a long time) or really keep track of its status.  You can try, but getting it in 11 days would be a miracle.  Good luck!  The best advice is just to phone everyone you can and plead your case - phone calls are the best for getting people to actually DO something for you.

ARRGH.  This just could not get more frustrating.  You guys are right, I'll probably have to call them.  I didn't want to, because the last time I did I got hit with a $120 phone bill.  I am running out of money fast, and if I don't get a miracle, I'm not going to England.  To be stopped at this late date will really cheese me off.   I am so AGGRAVATED!!

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys.  Pray for me, please.
