Query about ingredients for slow cooker bbq beef
« on: September 20, 2006, 10:06:48 AM »
Usually I stick a packet of Lipton Onion dip into the crockpot along with a tin of coke, some onions and a bottle of bbq sauce for my bbq'd beef. No more Lipton, so I just did it without, and didn't put any garlic powder or onion salt. Just the sauce, coke, onions and beef. Will it make a difference?

I would put some garlic powder if you have some.  What cut of beef are you using?

Just the round roast cut thing you get in the meat section. It's been in the cooker now since 830 this morning, sans garlic powder or onion salt.

should be okay.. you could add a bit of Beef bullion or the like to make up for the salt in the soup mix.  I mean basically lipton is beef broth and onion hence my suggestion.

There is also an onion soup mix that some use instead of Lipton, but I have no idea what it is.  Balmerhon should know if memory serves me right... you could pm her.

As long as it's ok - I was wondering if I needed the added salt for the meat or if it would be alright without. Next time I'll be sure to stick some in. This one may be a bit of an experiment anyway, as I used Newman's Own marinade along with the BBQ sauce, grabbed the bottle off the shelf without reading it, thinking it too was bbq sauce. Got home and hoped there wouldn't be much difference, but I had a bottle of Heniz so used that as well to make up the difference. As long as the meat is falling apart when it's done I think I'll be happy :)

There is a Knorr Onion Soup that you can get here and it is pretty close to the Lipton one.
