long distance phone plan ???

I been using MCI phone cards for the last 6 months which give me about 250 min for $20.00 which is OK and better then just calling up.  But I know there's got to be something better out there.  On the reverse side she saids she can't find any phone cards over there or just doesn't know were to look(her currently located is in Sheffield)so she just goes off her local provider which I guess gives you a discount after 6pmat 16p a min.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for after my trip in June we maybe apart for 6 month!!!! ouch

RIght now we use a VOIP service called Lingo. For a flat rate of about $25 a month we use our broadband service as our phone line and get free calls to the US, Canada, AND ENGLAND, 24/7/365. It is occasionally patchy, but for $25 a month it is a sparkly happy deal.

When calling from the UK to the USA I use ontel and it has a great rate.  My phone plane Bell South only costs .04 a minute.

as is I spend $160-200 a month on phone cards just wondering if they got hidden fees and all that junk!!!!!

Don't have broadband yet so Lingo wont work for me but she does in the U.K would it work for her

Found SBC offers a international plan for 3.99 a month charging .07 a min to the U.K if you already have them as a provider plus Domestic long distance.

we had cards from nobell for the US-UK route.  About 5 cents a minute.  just be sure you use the land line cards to call a land line and the cell cards to call a cell.

Does anyone use Vonage?

I use the SBC plan and it's GREAT!!!   
 My long distance bills went from $250 a month or more, to just under $100.
 When I'm at work or out and about I use Minute Pass which is a great calling card.  It is 14 cents to mobile phones or landlines in the UK,can be ordered on-line, is rechargeable and everytime you recharge they add bonus Min's to your card.   I usually put $40 on it a month and my total phone charges are NEVER over $150  and we've been known to talk for a good hour or more each night.
  I tell you Minute Pass was a great find, esp. when other calling cards charge you double if not triple to call a mobile phone vs. a landline.

I think this might have been addressed somewhere else already, but I've been using www.1899.com for a couple of months now and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. Register online. All calls to the US are ONLY a .03p connect fee - no price per minute - however long the call is, just .03p - this includes mobiles. All calls to UK landlines 24/7 are the same .03p connect fee. Mobiles on Sat/Sun .02p/minute and .10p/minute during the week. Just a matter of dialing 1899 before the number being called. Last month the bill was $10.61 and I was calling the US like mad all month and Richard works from home during the day so he's constantly making calls to UK landlines and mobiles. I'm totally sold on it.

We are also using 1899 and loving it-- and no have not seen any increase calls of phone solicitors at all.

I tried signing up with 1899 and they emailed me saying they are over subsribbed and to wait 6 weeks before trying agagin.

Britwife- my parents have Vonage. It works out at about .03 a minute to call the UK from the US. They seem to like it and call me ALL THE TIME! They have low bills every month too, I would recommend it. I haven't actually seen the setup they have- I think they have a special phone that they use to call me. Sometimes I can't hear them all that well on it, but after they dial they just switch phones and its fine. It could also just be my parents- they are kind of quirky. If you have any specific questions, I can ask them for you.

For those of you in the UK- I don't know if they still have these at the post office, but I got a phone card that has a christmasy picture on it. (they said they will sell them until they run out).  It lasts for 90 days, its 3p a minute to call the US and you can buy them for £5 each. A major bonus of this card is that its FREE on Saturdays to US landlines and US mobiles!!!  Free calls are from 12 am-12 pm UK time.  I was skeptical at first, but when you dial it says 'YOU HAVE UNLIMITED TIME FOR THIS CALL!'
