Inheritance from the U.S.
« on: October 28, 2006, 08:32:54 PM »
Anybody had to deal with living in the UK and getting an inheritance from the United States?  What's the taxation on something like this?  What did you do with the money, leave it in a US bank account and draw on it with your bank card or do a bank transfer of the lump sum.  I'm not talking a huge amount of money here, probably around $20,000, but hey ...

There is no UK or US tax on receiving an inheritance.

However if the funds are comingled with non-UK income or gains you might be subject to UK tax if the inheritance cannot be identified.

Thank you, I will do my best to avoid comingling, at least as far as funds are concerned.  ;)
