US computer to UK TV? (S-video to SCART)

I have a US laptop with S-video output. A UK tv with SCART input. Any way to connect these two?

Maybe.   The original SCART specification provided for composite and RGB video only, but some newer TV sets support an S-video extension which switches the connections of the SCART socket to accept the Y and C (luminance and chroma) from an  S-video output.   You can buy S-video to SCART adapter leads for use with such sets. 

The instruction book for the TV should tell you if your set supports this (on sets with multiple SCART sockets it will quite possibly only be available on one of them). 

Failing that, you can buy an adapter which converts from S-video to composite video on a SCART plug, but quality will not be as good.

As with other U.S./U.K. issues, you would also need to check that the TV will accept NTSC video, or that the computer video adapter can be set to output in PAL format.

Thanks Paul! The instruction book says that AV2 accepts S-video in. And it will playback from NTSC devices (on AV input only). Looks like I'm set; I just need to find one of those adapters to go from round 4 pin S-video to rectangle 21 pin SCART.

Electrical chainstores such as Currys, Comet, etc. will likely have a suitable adapter, or you could get one by mail order.  Maplin Electronics has an adapter to go from S-Video or RCA jacks to SCART which can be switched to be either inputs or outputs.  Enter stock code L85BA into the search box:
