once you've applied for a mortgage...
« on: November 16, 2006, 12:46:29 PM »
...how long does it typically take to get an answer?

our advisor sent the application in on friday night & told me it could be ten days to two weeks--does this sound about right?

and, despite the fact that i know it will do absolutely nothing to move things along but just might placate my racing brain, should i call the advisor to check on the status?

pins & needles, this is!    [smiley=dizzy2.gif]

it really depends on what type of mortgage, whether it's self-certified, how fast your references get back to them, etc... mine was 3 days for initial approval.  then another day or so for the survey to get final approval.

It does seem to vary.  Our IFA told us that the lender has a 48 hour turnaround time for processing applications.  They received the application Thursday so we should know on Monday if we have initial approval.  They will still have to do the employment checks after that.  I would wait till at least the middle of the week before phoning your advisor, they might surprise you and get it done sooner, you never know.
