SCA Or Historical Re-Creation

Anybody here (in the London area in particular) into things like the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), the Georgian Dance Society, any Regency groups, things like that, where you can make neat historical clothing and hang out doing stuff?  I'm not as interested in the Sealed Knot, but hey, a costume is a costume.

Thamesreach is the local shire ( http://www.thamesreach.org/ )  I haven't been to any events but I am on their yahoo group and they seem like a nice and friendly bunch.  As far as I know, they don't meet as often as groups in the US do but something is better than nothing!

I'm fairly certain that ...Sprigged... has been involved in those (or similar) groups, if I recall correctly from some of her early posts.  Might be worth it to PM her.

Thanks for the SCA info.  It's always nice to find places to wear your pretty clothes!  I've also heard about a Georgian dance group, which might be fun.

IdahoSwede, For Georgian, check out Cecil Sharpe House, for Regency well, most of them are out of London really; there are a ton in the South East though...

Then again, if you just want to dress up, well I'm game 

Hey, Sprigged, I'll get in touch after Feb. 1st, once I've settled in a bit.  I'm always game for dress-up as well.  Haven't played SCA for about 10 years, but I still have the gowns in a trunk, and I have a great 1778 gown I'm working on, as soon as my friendly corsetmaker finishes the stays.

Well, I'm up for dress up too.  I won't be here after August (hopefully!) but in the mean time, I'm game.

It will be 2008.  I don't get moved until the 1st of February, and then I have to get settled in my flat, get working in the new job and also, my corsetmaker in Denmark is working on 2 robes Anglaise that he has to finish before he can even start on my stays and panniers.

I don't know if there are many just plain costumers' societies in the UK.  I belonged to one in Portland, Oregon, where we'd choose an era and plan something fun.  One summer, we all made Victorian riding habits and then visited all of the 6 large carousels in the Portland area for a picnic and "riding".  It was so much fun.

I think I may know your corsetmaker...if it is who I think, they are really talented, and you are very lucky. 

If you're thinking it's Bjarne, you'd be correct.  He's brilliant, not cheap, but then quality never is.
