Too good to be true

I am thinking about moving to Glasgow, and I am looking for apartments, and I am finding BEAUTIFUL, MODERN, FURNISHED apartments for about 800 per month..

Ill be sharing the apartment, so it will only be 400 per person for a 2 bedroom,

now the thing is, it seems too good to be true, I still dont have a job, or anything like that, I am only starting to plan my move to the UK now..

what Im asking is, what is the catch?

The neighbourhood might be shite.  The building may be on a busy road.  There are all kinds of things that could be going on.  Best to wait to find a flat until you get here and can check it out in person.  Pictures can be deceptively nice too.

I don't think it need be bad at all.  £800 per month isn't excessively cheap for a two bedroom flat, it is maybe at the lower end, but doesn't necessarily mean that the area is dodgy.

Did I miss something or am I comparing apple to oranges, but in preparing to submit a visa prior to the April 2nd lawchange, one of the hurdles I thought I needed to jump, was to arrange accomodation prior to arriving, and show that it was arranged at the visa interview, or paper submission.

It's not usually necessary to have permanent accommodation set up, as long as your family has somewhere to go in the short term (ie a relative's or friend's house or some sort of guest house/self catered flat arrangement.)  If you arrange something like that and then state your intention to find a permanent place on arrival, that should be sufficient for the visa.

You did read the OP, correct?  Or are you just in the mood to nitpick my every post again?

1)  The OP said she was finding lovely 2 bed flats for £800 pcm.
2)  This seems to be reasonable, though not incredibly cheap.
3)  Therefore...in my opinion there isn't necessarily a catch at all, and it needn't be the case that there is a main road/shite neighbourhood. 

If it were £400 per month for the whole place, then I would certainly be wary, but in this case I don't see a need to be unduly worried.

That isn't nitpicking.  That's giving an opinion.  As for the 'again' bit, I am afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. I can't actually recall responding to many of your posts; I don't always pay attention to the names of people who post, sorry.

Oh, and if I have misread the post, then how about letting me know and correcting me, rather than sniping at me?

I don't necessarily think there is a catch either. I'm moving over in April after I get married to my Brit and we've been apartment searching. I'm going over in February so we can make the final decision together. We've found really nice, modern flats (and I'm talking American-style fridge/freezers, washers, dryers, diswashers, hardwood floors, etc.) for about 450 - 600 pcm.

The area is just outside Leeds, so the cost of housing is lower. But still, I live in Charlottesville, VA (which is NOT a cheap little town) and the comparable two bedroom apartments here run about $1,000 - $1,200 a month, so there's virtually no difference. Even the nicest, brand new apartments in Leeds city center aren't more than 800 - 900 pcm.

It depends on the area of Glasgow...
£800 could be just about right...  depending on the area.   Aventura, if you are not familiar with Glasgow, you'd be better off coming on a house-hunting visit first before committing to anything, as there are certainly some areas of Glasgow that you would want to stay away from...  but if the rent is £800, it's likely to be in a half-decent area.  You just dont know till you come and have a look.
