Bay parking technique
« on: January 29, 2007, 09:15:01 PM »
Hi all
I am looking for instruction or position how to do Bay parking technique.  I would like to do covering eyes before the reverse. So I am looking only for the right position to do only  full lock and reverse.

So where do you position your automatic car ?
kal ..

I know how to  Bay parking  as follow.. ..

Drive at right angles to the bay and when your shoulder is in the middle of the bay you wish to reverse in turn the steering wheel full lock until the car is about 45 degrees to the bay straighten wheel. Select reverse, all round obs and then reverse looking out of the back window and turning wheel full lock in the opposite direction. Aim the back of the car into the middle of the bay then straighten the car.

See the video here .

This man in video did not tell us about his first position..He parks the middle of car with the third white line.

I assume you are asking this for your test. Before you put too much effort into bay parking find out if the place you are taking your test has bay parking. If they do not have bay parking---you will not be asked to bay park!

To be honest, I've never heard of anyone having to bay park on their UK driving test (and both my brother and myself took the test 3 times each).

Unless the test has changed significantly in the last 6 years, the three manoeuvres that you will be taught by an instructor and asked to do on a test are (you will probably have to do 2 of the 3 in the actual test):

Reverse round a corner
Three-point turn in the road
Parallel park behind a car parked at the side of the road

and you may also be asked to do an emergency stop.

I have just checked the official DVLA driving test site -http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_4022540
and there is no mention anywhere of bay parking.

Hope this helps - I can't give you any advice about reverse bay parking because I have never done it in my life (it's so much easier to reverse out of a bay than into it)!

I had to do a bay park. My teacher told me to go up 3 bays and then start your turn in. I had trouble with this and just took my time doing it and I had to correct myself. I pulledback out and repositioned myself. I didn't go all the way into the stall when I corrected myself though. The instructor gave me a minor for my control. Good luck with your test!

at our test centre, there is bay parking and it is either the first or last thing they ask you to do.

My instructor gave me a fool proof method that works.

Line up the line of the parking bay two bays over from where you want to park, in the centre of the driver's side window.

Immediately crank the wheel all the way and reverse into the bay.  Straighten out..

You have one more chance to make it right without penalty.

I had to bay park at the end of my test at Bletchley, Milton Keynes.  I can't remember the ins and outs of it, I just do it now, although generally I'll go in forward first.

Congrats on passing the test.  Now get out in that BMW down the motorway and start earning those penalty points!  j/k!!
