points on a new license
« on: February 01, 2007, 03:13:56 PM »
okay, this may be a little confusing but bear with me.

i recieved a speeding ticket in december, and currently still have my US driver's license.  after i go to court and deal with whatever the penalties are, will it affect me if i get a UK license later this year?  will they add retroactive points to the license?

i spoke to someone at DVLA and he didn't actually know.

help...

I believe they will transfer. I remember another member on the board had the same situation, and the points did transfer to the UK license.

I understand that DVLA creates a kind of "ghost license" record to which penalty points can be added, so that if/when the person in question obtains a U.K. license the points will be on it.   From what I've read, I think it's a little hit and miss as to whether this happens in every case though, so if nobody bothered to create the record you might get lucky.
