Food/water accessable from outside?
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:05:13 PM »
BA container requirements include the following:
The container must have a water pot and a food container accessible from the outside.

How is this possible with a standard kennel?  Anyone know what this means?

I bought the food and water containers that screwed onto the cage. The airline said that they would be able to pour some water into the dish from the outside of the cage. They fed him his food the same way. Hope this helps.

Thanks.  I think I will get one of the water bottles that attaches to the outside of the crate and a regular food dish that goes on the inside of the door.

That's exactly what I did for my two boys and I had no problems whatsoever (we flew BA from Atlanta to Gatwick in October 2006).

Great, it's reassuring to know that worked for you.

Thanks!

There are no commercially available cages that fit the DEFRA rules.  Seeing as how they accept regular airline-approved carriers, WHY can't they just modify their  rules???

I went with Northwest and they had the same rules too.  All I did was buy a bottle of water and put in some tins of cat food all in a plastic carry bag (like a Walmart bag) and they just had me tie the back shut and tape it to the top of the kennel for each cat.

That's what we did when my cats were shipped over here to England. my cats food & water bowl were screwd onto the cage door inside the cat crate for each cat. we flew Continental Airlines we had no problems that I can remember. the cats bowls were able to come off the cat's crate door once they got here to our house in England. goodluck with you pets travel plans.
