I've never purchased pet insurance and I've always been a bit skeptical myself. When I first arrived, I stopped by my local vet (my cats are on prescription food) and they had a brochure for The Healthy Pets Club. There are two plans, the preventative and the total healthcare memberships. Your pet can't be more than 10 years old to register, or you pay an addtional 3 pounds per month. I don't believe your dog's issue would be covered on the preventative plan as that's primarily for routine check ups and such, so you'd have to go with the total one. At my vet, for the 0-20 kg dog, is 25.90 per month. The biggest dog category is 32.90 per month. It covers a lot of things, but items excluded from the plan are:
-Pre-existing conditions or illnesses occuring withing the first 14 days of acceptance onto the scheme.
-Dental treatment (10% discount)
-Prescription diets (10% discount)
Since Dillinger's problem is pre-existing, maybe he wouldn't even be covered. It's certainly worth looking into if you're spending more than 30 pounds per month on this problem. But if it's a one off thing or if you're only at the vet sporadically, then maybe it's not worth it. Good luck, it's a tough decision.
