nah, it's just funny the sedate nature of eating pancakes on the same day people are living up Fat Tuesday.

What she said, and also I don't think of it just as getting drunk & nothing else (though the drinking tends to go with the celebrations).  Don't get me wrong - I do like pancakes. :)  Just that if I had the choice between eating pancakes & being witness to something like this:

I know which I'd choose! ;D

That's how the light gets in...

I just saw this thread. Pancake Day happened to be while I was visiting my boyfriend. His family was excited for Pancake Day and on Tuesday I woke up and asked my boyfriend when we were going to have them, it was almost time for everyone to leave for work and school. He and his mom (she lived in the states for 7 years) forgot that I wouldn't know that pancakes aren't a breakfast food here! My boyfriend's brother (he's 8 and didn't know either) wanted pancakes in the morning too! His mother felt bad that they didn't have pancakes for breakfast after that!

I'd never had English pancakes before, but they were good! Definitely a big difference between those and American, we had the traditional lemon and sugar. They had some chocolate syrup for them as well. My boyfriend's mom found some Bisquick that afternoon at Waitrose and I made some American style pancakes for breakfast the next day!  ;D
