Okay, so for news on this, here's what has happened the last few days.

I overnighted my other transcripts, Butler received them, and this morning I received an email saying that she has sent off my application to UCL but it will be 4 weeks at the least before I hear an answer.

She has also mentioned that I could choose a different department at UCL, like Anthropology  or European Studies, because they're more flexible about who they accept. Don't  get me wrong, I love anything and everything about Anthropology! I'm kinda lost as to what I want to do now though. I need to either decide on a second choice (University of Edinburgh or a different department at UCL, and she has also suggested St. Andrews but I don't know if I would like it there as it's in the middle of no where) or decide to wait and go next year.

I'm so frustrated with everything I've had to do in this process that I don't know if I want to wait till next year and do it all over again though. What a disaster! I'm really concerned  about the conservation of art classes not being available anywhere else, but I also think it's possible to get into a grad program without them as other people before me have. Hmm...

How frustrating.  It sounds like one huge mess.  Good luck with your decision.   [smiley=hug.gif]

I hope you can sort something out for this year - I can imagine how awful it must be to have to wait to hear what's going on.

I wouldn't rule out St. Andrews completely though - I have a couple of friends who studied there and they loved it (plus, Prince William went there too), Although it is pretty far north, St. Andrews isn't actually in the middle of nowhere (despite how it looks on the map) - the city of Dundee (population 143,000) is only 13 miles north and Edinburgh is just 50 miles away- so if you went there, you wouldn't be totally isolated.

Good luck with the decision-making and applications :).

So I know this kind of off-topic, BUT if it is art conservation you are interested in, my extended family in Turin, Italy runs an art restoration/conservation program...they offer like short courses and stuff like that, and they are supposed to be super fun. Here is the website:

I know its not the UK, but if you ever want to go to Italy and do some art stuff, its an option.

Back to the topic at hand, it really is a bummer that things are so up in the air for you. Its amazing that the people who hold your future in their hands can be so lame and have no idea what they are doing. Anyways, I hope things work out for you and you get to go over.
