Easyway (TM) by Allen Carr
« on: March 06, 2004, 01:02:52 AM »
For those who want to quit smoking, I recommend Easyway by Allen Carr. I read this book two months ago and haven't even craved a cigarette since. It's really cool how easy it was to quit smoking!

Allen Carr doesn't preach or use scare tactics, he takes away all the illusions you have about smoking and leaves you "A happy non-smoker". It sounds corny, but I was smoking a pack a day and even in pubs with all my mates lit up around me, I still don't want one.

If you're interested (you have nothing to lose  ;) ) then you can get them from any of the book shops or at amazon:

Do you mind me asking 'why do you think it was so easy?' I bought this book for my husband, he read it, agreed with it and then went outside for a fag!!!!! I had heard so many good things just like your post in regards to this book. I just can't seem to figure out why my DH reads it, understands it, agrees with it, but still lights up. congrats on you quitting by the way! that's fantastic.  shan

I have a great quit-smoking plan.  Get pregnant and be forced to give them up.   >:(  Then, every time you mention how much you would kill for just one lovely, lovely cigarete, everyone around you can start anxiously saying, in fast high-pitched speech, "You aren't going to start smoking again are you?  Because you aren't getting any younger."

It's working for me. [smiley=bigcry.gif]

Awww, Saf, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at your post. My DF quit with patches and it was sheer unmitigated hell for him but he's been smoke-free for 2 1/2 years now. I'm proud as hell of him. Now if only I could lose weight we'd both be better off.  :-[
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I think I just wanted to quit so much that it was easy for me to understand what it was talking about and it altered the way I thought about smoking. The thing is the physical addition only lasts a week or so, after that it's all psychological and the book made me realise I didn't need a ciggie to enjoy myself.

Mind you, the first time I went to a pub with friends was hard. And for a month after I quit I would think about it all through my lunch break or after I ate etc etc but after that I began to realise I hadn't thought about a ciggie in a day.. or two days or three....

If it didn't take the first time, have him read it again. Or go to one of their clinics. They have them all over the country. It's around £100 a pop, but some say it's wel worth it.
