Anyone use movers that packed for them in the UK?
« on: February 15, 2007, 08:50:29 AM »
Hi all
Well, tomorrow is the big day.  We decided that because Josh is at that age where he needs someone to look after him at all times we would fork out the extra money for a moving company that also packs your stuff for you. (Heck, I might have done it anyway, not feeling any stress at all!!!)  Anyway, just curious if anyone has done this and what to expect. I know all companies are different, but I figure they must be similar.  Is there anything I should do to help make it easier?  Do they ususally leave all the stuff in the drawers and just move them full?  Anything would help.

Thank you!

No advice here, I'm afraid, but I'd be very interested in hearing the answer to this question too! Anything I can do to cut down on the amount of work I have to do when I move is good!

I'll let you know regardless. (In case no one has used them)

When we moved we had the movers pack all our electricals like TV and computer, in fact it was the first time we've used a proper moving firm and not just a man and van. Anyway they were very good, did everything at top speed, they sent a team of 3 guys to do it. I was a little worried that some of the large items they were wrapped in carpet and rope but it worked because everything arrived fine at the other end.  I packed all the smaller stuff myself so I don't know what they do about that but afterwards I wished we'd had them do that too!

We are moving in a couple weeks and are using Allied Pickfords. We used Allied in the US to pack and move when we came over to the UK in 2002. Great service, not one thing was damaged. When our container arrived Pickfords delivered it to the house and unpacked the large items (we unpacked the boxes) - great service. I am confident we'll get the same good level of service this time. Yes, it's more expensive, but there is not way I am packing 4 bedroom house for an international move myself!

Thanks, Stephanie, but I think Stacey is talking about moving within the UK -- from one house to a new house.

Best of luck with your move!

Whoops, sorry! I still say use the packers - it's totally worth it! :D I'll never pack and move myself again, even if it's in the same city. :P

Totally agree here!  Well worth the extra money. (Which was not that bad at all)

Our movers were family owned, which I loved.  So two women came to our house the day before we moved and packed everything in about 4 hours.  It was amazing.  One thing broke (A bottle of jewelry cleaner) but other then that, brilliant.  Will never go back ;D
