Water filter jug debris
« on: March 13, 2007, 07:41:38 PM »
Since coming here, we've gone through two jugs.  The Kenwood cracked.  Now we have a Brita.

Both (similar) systems have the same problem: they leak little bits of whatever stuff that's in the filter into the water.

Is this just me?  Is it a problem, beyond the aesthetics?

Dh & I have a Brita Maxtra water filter jug, but we haven't noticed any debris in our water that comes out of the water filter jug. I'm always refilling our jug cause I'm drinking alot more water since starting my diet. we also use the filtered water for the cats as well.

I have the same problem.  Is it the filter leaking, or is it hard water deposits forming in the filtered water in the jug?  I haven't figured it out yet.

The stuff I've been seeing is tiny white and black balls... the same stuff that the filters have inside.

And yes, I have followed the prep instructions, and I change the filters once a month.

What you got, Carrie?

I'm curious how often do you ladies change your filters, we change our once a month.  We have a digital timer on the lid of Brita water filter jug it starts out at 100%. by the end of the month we can see we need a new filter because the gauge is flashing 0%. Do yours have this to tell you when to change the filter?

The Brita lid tells us to change once/month.  I changed the Kenwood that often anyhow.. although it had no nifty guage.

Just changed the filter two days ago, debris is there.

Did you rinse the jug before you put the new filtre in?  I noticed when I changed our filtre the other day, that there was debris in the filtre holder so I rinsed it before replacing the filtre.  No debris in the drinking water part though.

I wash the jug and filter-holder-thingy in the dishwasher at every change.  (Not the lid.)

I must be doing something wrong, though... I usually am!

Do you soak the filter for the required amount of time, before you put it in the jug?

I was wandering are you pushing the filter all the down till it wont go any further?

I don't know, guys...  with the soaking, the Brita filter directions just say to rinse.  I'll try out the next one using the Kenwood-style directions.  (Soak for a while, then filter a few jugs of water before use.)  May not help; I saw the same stuff with the Kenwood.

I'll try pushing the filter harder, too.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
