Easter Dinner
« on: April 03, 2007, 01:06:44 PM »
Easter was the one meal that I always cheated on and spoiled myself on a prepared honey baked ham! The closest I have come to is a pork joint. Maybe its time to ditch the Ham for Easter tradition.
What is your Easter menu plan?

My mom has invited us over and they're doing steaks on the grill with baked potatoes, salad and some dessert which I have to come up with.

Ham in the crockpot too, green beans, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls.  Not sure about dessert yet.

I am curious about the dinner rolls. I have yet to find a sub for the good ole "Brown n Serve" dinner rolls. Yes my culinary skills were lacking the other side of the pond! Do you make your own or do you buy them?

In my family it was always ham.  I made a chicken last year for friends, but this year, I think dh and I are sticking with my family's ham tradition (since I'm the one cooking it).   I'm also doing some cheesy potatoes and some green beans.  Nothing too exciting.  We have haagen daas for desert though, so that will be a special treat!

Oooo! ham in the crockpot?  recipe please?

When I lived in the US, we would buy a Honey Baked Ham and make au gratin potatoes, green been casserole or broccoli & rice casserole.

I know this isn't dinner... but we usually have cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Easter.
I did my first test batch last weekend and they turned out great... tasted very similar to Cinnabon! :)

Persephone, I like your picture.

I just do this the night before and let it cook overnight. Saves me fussing during the day.

Slow Cooker Cola Ham

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 cup cola (Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper, etc.)
3 to 4 pound pre-cooked ham
PREPARATION:
Combine brown sugar and mustard. Moisten with just enough cola to make a smooth paste. Reserve remaining cola. Score the ham with shallow slashes in a diamond pattern. Rub ham with paste mixture. Place ham in slow cooker/Crock Pot and add remaining cola.

Cover and cook on high for 1 hour, then turn to low and cook for 6 to 7 hours.
Serves 9 to 12.
A 5 pound ham could be cooked in a larger slow cooker. Cook for 1 hour on high, then 8 to 10 hours on low.

Thank you!  I took it on a recent day trip.

Thank you for the recipe too!  It's going infront of dh with all the many other reasons we need a slow cooker.  It looks yummy!

The light in the photo is lovely. And a slow cooker is totally worth it! All our Sunday dinners are done with it. Just stick some meat in it with whatever seasonings, leave it overnight and you have the perfect roast the next day.  :)

When I lived back in the States my mom & sisters & I we would all gather at my oldest sister's house. my oldest sister would always have a spiral ham in the oven cooking. we would have a huge buffet type meal, everyone who came had to bring a dish or a desert. Dh's family doesn't do anything for Easter.  :(  I started at a gym today & I need to have 3 sessions with a trainer, before I can do anything in the gym on my own. so Easter Sunday I will be at the gym lol.  ::)  I will call my family after I get back from the gym though.
