Toast & Toaster
« on: April 06, 2007, 08:57:43 AM »
OK, I know this will sound silly to many, but I'm going to post my question and hope for the best.

I like toast and our toaster is not very efficient. Toasting bread requires turning the bread upside down half way through the toasting cycle to get the entire slice of bread browned, the browning is inconsistent & very slow, and the "dial" for light to dark is nonlinear and unpredictable. I'd like to put the bread in let it toast, spread and eat. The toaster is a Bellini. So, before I buy a replacement, any recommendations the toaster would be appreciated. I had a old, really old, KitchenAide in the States which worked fine.

I'm not a "morning person" hence the wish for little interaction with the toaster. I apologize for whining and please feel free to roll your eyes at my complaint and query, my MB does all the time.

I have a really cheapie toaster I bought for a pound off an Aussie who was leaving and it works great. I think it's a Cookworks. I'd not recommend it but it sounds like your toaster is just broken.

I hardly ever use the toaster, I prefer to toast bread etc under the grill.

Yes! It is a KitchenAid and it's wonderful!! But, I really only bought it because it looks so lovely. My old toaster was a cheapie (about £7) from Woolworth's and it always worked fine. I just wanted something really flash, as Anne says.  :)

Yup, it does sound like your toaster is just a lemon, RipleyofDallas. It's easy and inexpensive to replace ... unless, of course, you have your heart set on a KitchenAid.

I've had the same problems. We can never get a toaster that works well. The first piece takes all morning to toast (OK, slight exaggeration) and then the second toasts too fast and burns. And we've had a couple models from reputable makers/shops.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Thanks for all the replies. Britwife, the grill would certainly work, but like I am really really not a morning person - I'd end up with chargrilled toast  :) 8am meetings are a horror unless I've been up all night.

Balmerhorn, oh yeah.

Please, chary, model or link. I'm buying whatever you have!!

I have the red KitchenAid Artisan toaster. I think it came from eBay and was a display model, so cost a bit less than it would have had it been brand spanking new. I'd try eBay first. If there aren't any available there, then just Google! There are loads of kitchen shops and suppliers who carry KitchenAid appliances!  :)

The problem I have had with toast and toasters over here is that the bread slices are always too big for the toaster.  We ended up just gettingone in the states and we use it on a transformer.
