Does anyone have a recipe for apple fritters?
« on: May 12, 2007, 01:06:08 PM »
I miss them so much and was talking about them to some English friends, and am now committed to making some.  I can't find a recipe - are they cake or yeast doughnuts???  I mean the kind with diced apples and cinnamon and lovely crispy glazed outsides....yummm.  Anyone able to help? I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

My mother used to make apple fritters when I was a child, but I think with sliced, rather than diced, apples. This was here, so it is a UK thing as well as a US one! I don't think I still have the recipe, though, and I've never tried making them myself. Let me know how you make out!  :)

Have you tried googling for a recipe? Looks like they are a simple batter to make, flour, salt, baking powder.......egg and milk for the liquid. There are a couple recipes online that use bisquick for the batter. I use allrecipes a lot, usually look for the recipes I want that have the most, (and best) reviews. I usually get really lucky with them.

I've eaten these apple fritters at the Applewood Farmhouse restaurant in Sevierville, Tennessee (or was it the one in Gatlinburg - I don't remember for sure!) once upon a time, & they're pretty good.

Is that the sort you're looking for?  Their apple butter was to die for as well!

I have developed an evil plan.  My friend's mom works in the bakery where I used to buy them.  Maybe if I sniffle and act extremely homesick, she'll be duped into giving me the secret recipe!!  Muhahahahahah!!!!  I'll let you know how I make out.
