british reception songs?
« on: April 20, 2007, 10:17:44 PM »
Ooh, a post from me that isn't panicky! (Yes, I am capable of those, too.)  ;D

Okay, so I'm going to be meeting with the guy who's DJ'ing our wedding reception next week, and I'm wracking my brain to come up with a good songlist to discuss with him. Obviously we're going to play classic "reception-y" songs that I've heard on both sides of the pond like "Love Shack" (haha), but since I've recently found out (much to FH's and my pleasant surprise!) that most of his family (including the ones from NZ in addition to the Brits! :o) wants to visit the US for the wedding, I'd like to include some songs that they'd enjoy in addition to the stuff everyone knows. I was at FSIL's wedding last year and I *know* there were "party" songs that everyone was dancing to/singing along with that I didn't recognize, and of course I'm blanking on what they were right now.

I've asked FH, but his answer is  "you know I have a mind like a sieve about these things" so help a girl out! :)

Every wedding reception or Christmas disco i have ever been to in my 20+  years of living in the UK has included Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline'!  :-X

You have to have something by Tom Jones, that's compulsory!

Also, for your NZ guests may I suggest Weather With You by Crowded House.

Oh oh don't forget Wham, Wake Me UP Before You Go Go.

Actually, I just had a thought, School Disco plays the kind of music you're thinking of, so have a look at their playlists, there is even a CD you can get that has it all.

Would it be lame if I said I've been to one of those when I was a student?? I didn't even think to check if they had a website. Perfect!

Thanks everyone, these have all been added to The List!!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

'Come on Eileen' by Dexy's Midnight Runners.  No wedding disco is complete without this song.
