Yesterday I saw a little herb pot, sort of like the strawberry pots with the little sections all around the sides. It came with 6 different herbs. Has anyone had any luck doing herbs this way? I've done them outside in beds or in pots, but never in a pot like that.

We got one like that from Aldi last year.  Some stuff came up (think it was the basil if I recall right) but slugs ate it before it had much of a chance.  Kept the poy and going to try again with just a small basil plant I think.

I just planted strawberry plants today.  Does anyone know if there's anything special that I need to do with them (obviously besides water them!)?

Thanks:P

I have just been watering mine and they are now blossoming so I think watering alone is enough.  I planted them in compost though, no soil, dunno if that makes a difference.

On a different note, today I sowed romaine lettuce and mixed salad greens, should be able to start eating them in the next month or so.  I aslso planted cabagges from plugs and but some herbs and repotted them to a balcony hanging basket.  I need to buy more growing bags to plant the rest of the cabbages and more herbs, etc to fill up the balcony pot.  I also bought some rocket because I mistook them for something else and I don't actually like rocket :/

Now that I have planted the herbs, I am wondering if perhaps I should have spaced them out more.  Here is a pic, what do you guys think?

I plan to fill the rest of the pot with either more herbs or perhaps some small cascading tomatoes or something.

I would think that would be fine.  My mom used to make hanging herb baskets and if I remember correctly the herbs were quite close together.

the trick with potted plants is to make sure you don't over or under water them. I've killed off a few things simply by going away for the weekend.

At the moment, I have heaps of parsley and coriander all sort of mixed together. That's a bit of a nightmare since they look so similar. I've had great success with basil.

This is a great time of year to find gardening gear in the shops. The pound shop had loads of stuff and even Sainbury's is selling compost in the aisle!
