furnished or unfurnished...that is the question
« on: May 07, 2007, 11:42:54 PM »
I am trying to decide whether to get a furnished or unfuirnished flat in Edinburgh.  It seems from the S1 site that there are much more furnished flats than unfurnnished available.  Is that true elsewhere in the UK?  There really isn't much difference in rent between the two either. And when they say "unfurnished" does that mean no kitchen appliances such as frig or dishwasher?
Thanks in advance for the help.

It's unlikely that there will be a dishwasher, full stop, whether you choose furnished or unfurnished.

I've rented furnished and unfurnished flats in the past, and both came with fridge & cooker.

You'll just have to ask about the specific flats/houses you're interested in.  We've rented both a flat and a house and they both came with dishwashers, fridge/freezers, washers/dryers, etc.

Yes it really varies. Some newer places do come with all whiteware including dishwasher, w/m, dryer, fridge but others may come with none of that or only a fridge or w/m.

We've had an unfurnished house and a part-furnished house and both came with fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine. The part-furnished one also had a few bits of beyond ugly pine furniture, most of which is now in the loft.  ;)

Our unfurnished house came with all white appliances.  Lightbulbs in the sockets, too!

(Unfurnished in Japan means NOTHING is in place.)
