USPS no longer doing surface shipping???

Just had a phone call from my mom who was about to send me loads of baby things from the states. Apparently she went to look up shipping rates on the USPS website and saw that since May 14th they no longer do surface shipping (the obviously cheaper option for shipping).  I am in disbelief.... and also am wondering that it has not been posted on this forum yet if it's true.  Anyone know anything about this?

Yes it's true and it was posted here, but I can't remember the name of the thread. It sucks. :(
