Joining the ranks of a future repat
« on: March 01, 2004, 11:53:31 AM »
May l join the ranks of a future repat?

We have been presented with an almost too good to be true offer back in the states. But it is very true and real! So DH and l had a chat last night about it and felt it was best we take up this offer. We would leave in September. NOW the worrying begins! We have to find a sponsor, jobs and so on! Jobs part won't be such a problem as l am registered with the state of lllinois as a Habilitation Aide so that will get me in the door to many different facilities for persons with a learning disability. Anyway, Now on to a big question--

Does the interview have to take place at the Embassy in London. OR will they do the interview in the consulate near you?

Funny enough we have a consulate in Belfast but a US Embassy in Dublin! Of course it would be easier to travel to Dublin but they won't accept us!  ::)

Congratulations Trish! You must be really really excited about all of this! I have no idea what to tell you about the Embassy though, my guess is that it's still got to be done in London since that's where the paperwork is still sent, but hopefully I'm wrong and you don't have to make that long trip - - unless you want to? :) Congrats though!!! And keep us updated with your progress!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Congrats to you guys :)

So, is everyone in agreement that it is a fairly fast process going thru the Embassy in London?  We have been married over two years, so when we are ready, I am hoping it won't be a 6 month wait to have the visa in hand.

Tebs, Its very quick. From the day I sent in all the forms to the day Martin got his visa in hand (interview day) it was 85 days. So just under 3 months. Not bad eh?

Trish, I dont know the answer to your question either. Not for sure anyway. Generally the interview is done at the US Embassy, consulate, or overseas mission that has jurisdiction over the area in which you premanently reside. I have heard cases where the paperwork was filed at one US Embassy and the interview took place at another. For instance, people permanently residing in India but working in the UK could file in India and attend their interview in London. My best advice is to email the US Embassy that covers your area.

Best wishes,
Sarah
