I'm assuming you've been approved for a student visa then? Is there a date given with your visa?

i haven't been, but don't i tell them when to post-date it by? the letter of unconditional acceptance gives the start date for my course as oct 1 ... but i would like to arrive sooner to complete arranging my housing and hopefully look for a decent part time job.

i don't imagine i will have trouble getting the visa approved. i have funding and can prove it and will copy my diploma ... and i've officially accepted my offer. i've never overstayed a visa or been arrested or any of that. is there much more to it?

the official policy stated on the britainusa website is 30 days...but anecdotal evidence suggests that the consulates in the US can be flexible and allow an earlier start date.  In most cases though, arriving a month ahead of time should be enough time to arrange housing and get settled.  I arrived about 2 weeks before my course started and was fine..but then again, I had housing pre-arranged through the uni.

Yep, I'll be here!  I live about a mile away from the uni.  Definitely let me know when you arrive in Sheffield and we'll meet up! :)
