Date you established residency in the foreign country
« on: May 19, 2007, 08:12:45 PM »
Turbotax is asking me this.  Is it the date I arrived in the UK, or the date I became a bona-fide resident? I would think its the date I arrived, but I wanted to check.

Thank you.

Turbotax is a great piece of software, but if you can't figure out what it is asking then you might want to look at the IRS instructions for the Form 2555 to see what it is getting at...

I think it is asking the date you arrived in the UK...

That question is asking you the date you ESTABLISHED residency, in order to determine the date for bona fide residence purposes.  This may be the date you arrived, or it may be a later date.
