Moving to UK with a dog - Housing???
« on: April 22, 2009, 05:24:40 AM »
Hi,

Since my old dog's legs are getting better, I start thinking about moving itself.  And, of course, there are several problems.  I'm in NY right now.  But, I have to go back to my home country Japan to get a visa before moving to the UK.  And, since I can't stay at a university's housing because of my dog, I have to find a home after I arrive there.  So, I and my dog will be homeless at least for a month.  My friend here would be able to take care of my dog for a couple weeks, but I don't think they would be willing to do for a month.  So, after lots of thinking, I came up with this idea.

1. My dog stays at my friend's place for two weeks while I am back in Japan,
2. I stop by NY on my way to the UK and pick my dog up, and
3. My dog stays at a local dog boarding (I found a few in a town where I will be) until I find a flat.

I'm not sure how tough to find a pet allowed flat, but hoping to find a place within a week or so.  Because the boarding is in a town, I can visit my dog everyday.  I think this sounds much better than leaving my dog in US until I find a home.  But, is this really do-able???

Could you please tell me your opinion about my idea?  How did you manage finding your house and moving your pet?  Any advice appreciated.

Thank you.

Not sure if this will make any difference, but if you have a visa which allows you to work legally in the US you can apply for your UK visa from there without having to go back to Japan.

I am working here with my second H1B visa.  But, I haven't gone home since I got my 1st work visa.  So, I have all documents and work permit from US government, but don't have a visa stamp on my passport. Do you think I can still apply UK visa from US.  If that's possible, our move becomes much easier.
