Wedding Banns?
« on: May 30, 2007, 05:25:27 PM »
So DF (UK) has just gotten back from visiting his grandparents, who insist that we need to do/have wedding banns in order to marry. I told him not to worry about it, because we're marrying stateside in a United Church of Christ where all that is required is the marriage license (beyond our pre-marital counseling). However, now he's antsy and worried that we're not doing something we need to. Could someone please put his mind at rest? Thanks!

Banns are for Church of England weddings in the UK.

Not needed otherwise.

(at least from a legal standpoint.)
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

I just got married in the U.S. and had a blessing in a CofE and I didn't need any banns.  You only need them if you are getting married in a CofE. No worries, you don't need them.
