South Africa anyone?
« on: June 07, 2007, 06:02:24 PM »
DH and I would like to do a week to 10 days in SA this fall.  Anyone have any tips on where to go, what to see and how to get there?

ideally we'd like to do a bit of safari, a bit of wine tasting and a bit of beach (I would think in that order of importance).  Are there any great packages that we should look into?

Any info appreciated!

I don't have any specifics other than to say my inlaws went there for a month in 2005 and absolutely LOVED it.  They travelled all over, did a safari, etc.  They said it was the best vacation they had ever had, and according to FIL the seafood was to die for.  Good luck with your plans and I hope you have a great time :)

I've travelled overland from Kenya to South Africa down via Namibia. I'd consider going there too if you can swing it. It was a former German settlement and there is still the German influence there today. There are game reserves. My favorite was Etosha where you have self drive amongst the animals... and soooo many lions!! Coast line and sand dunes... so much to offer.

The wine route in the Stellenbosch region is nice and very close to Cape Town and of course there you have Table Mountain and Robben Island nearby. I really liked Cape Town.
