Affidavit of Support
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:50:58 AM »
So, we are working on our paperwork and my father was planning to be my husband's sponsor.  From reading the form, it seems like I have to be the sponsor and if I don't have the funds (don't as not working! - full time Mom!) that I can have someone joint sponsor with me.  Is that correct or am I missing something and my Dad can sponsor him?

Thanks!

You will always be the sponsor but your father can be a joint sponsor.  You still have to submit an affidavit of support even if you have no funds.  We are in the same situation.

I spoke to the Embassy yesterday before I saw your posts and they told me the same thing, so that's what we're doing!

Once you had all the paperwork in and the medical done, how long was it before you had your interview/visa (for those of you who have completed the process, that is!)?

When  your I-130 gets approved they send you a letter saying so.  A couple of days after that, the visa applicant gets an envelope from the embassy with the forms they have to send in as well as the info for the medical.  My husband got this form  yesterday and I made the medical appointment for the 26th (two weeks away).  Once you return those forms to the embassy, they will send another letter with the interview date and time in about 7 to 10 days.  The interview is usually scheduled for about 4 weeks after you receive the notice.
