(From the USA to UK) Ive used Nomad Traveler's Insurance 3 times already. I havent had any issues, but its given me peace of mind having it.:-p It's based out of Australia. I've never tried insurance from UK to USA before(except one time while traveling through STA travels), but this might be something to look into.

I used Mondial which I purchased for a decent price when I booked my trip to the USA in March for my sisters wedding. Immediately before I was to depart my son ended up in the hospital so I cancelled my trip. I was reimbursed for the entire amount less the cost of the insurance and £35 deductable. They agency was very easy to deal with and they didn't drag their feet about payment. I received my cheque within two weeks.

I purchased single trip insurance with Insure and Go for £30 last November. I went with them because they didn't count my type 2 diabetes against me like most and it was simple to do online.

We've used Marks & Spencer travel insurance and in one instance needed it in the states for an ER visit - they were totally helpful, everything was handled smoothly. I'd recommend them.

We just got the annual policy from Tesco http://www.tescofinance.com/personal/finance/insurance/travelins/index.jsp
Seemed a good "all around" deal for the whole family, all of at a time or it covers us individually (if we are abroad on our own). :)
(Works for me!) :)
