DH - morton's neuroma
« on: June 17, 2007, 04:41:22 PM »
My DH (the EU national) and I are moving to England in early August. He has a morton's neuroma (swollen nerve) in his foot that isn't responding completely to injections and he will want to have it removed. We likely won't have time to have the surgery and have him heal completely before the move and moving while healing from foot surgery doesn't sound enticing.

So, looking forward to being on the NHS. If we know he will need this eventually (soonish) what should we do before and when we get there to ensure it happens quickly and properly?

Thanks in advance!
/Julia

I'm no expert but that sounds like the sort of thing there will be a waiting list for. As soon as you get here register with a GP and ask to be referred to the appropriate specialist. Bring copies of his medical notes or a letter from his doctor in the US detailing his condition, treatment to date and that the injections haven't worked.  Then if the GP thinks it appropriate they can refer him to a specialist at the hospital and if the specialist agrees surgery is necessary they can put him on a waiting list.  How long the wait will be will depend entirely on the hospital/local health authority.
