Although, I'm not sure if my definition of "duvet" is the same as the British definition... I thought a duvet was simply a cover that is like a big pillow case but for your comforter. As in, you stick the comforter inside of it. Is this wrong?

the duvet itself is a plain white comforter-like bedspread, which you put inside a duvet cover (which is what you are describing.)  The word "comforter" isn't used in the UK (most Brits would have no idea what you're talking about) it's just the duvet and the duvet cover.

Yeah, I'd forgotten that the words have different meanings in the US and UK. To make things more confusing, I've always considered 'duvet' to be the posh word for it. My family have always called them quilts!

So, comforter = duvet = quilt, yet also duvet = duvet cover = quilt cover and quilt = comforter, bedspread, blanket or patchwork !!

there's also the australian term for duvet- "doona", which is something I learned from an Aussie friend during my exchange student experience

Wow! I had no idea the concept was so complex! lol! Thanks for sharing!  So I suppose what I'm planning to send is the duvet/quilt cover

I've heard that they provide us with the duvet/comforter, but if I end up needing to buy one when I get there, that's okay too.
