Easy to Find DVD player that play US and UK DVDs?
« on: April 28, 2007, 04:44:07 PM »
I have heard that you can get dvd players in the UK that play both US and UK type DVDs. Is that true? Are they easy to find? I am hoping to bring my DVD's with me when I move but would hate to have to get a converter for my US DVD player.

It's very easy to find, so bring your DVDs! We bought a Sanyo on Amazon.co.uk for 30 pounds. It works great. We found it by searching for "multi-region dvd". The only thing they don't tell you is that you have to enter a code to change between Region 1 and Region 2, but we found the code and how to change it easily enough with a search online (the info was in a review on Amazon!).

Another cool thing -- if you have a DVD that you recorded yourself on a DVD recorder (I had put some of my exercise videos on DVD in the states for convenience), they will play on any player regardless of region.

You can get a cheap DVD player for less than £20 and Google for a code to make it region-free.

Simple and cheap. ;D

The Tesco Value DVD player is around £16 now and a simple Google search will reveal an unlocking code that allows you to play DVDs from all regions.

Remember that as well as being region coded the DVD will still have an inherent video format, i.e. 625-line U.K. vs. 525-line U.S.    The DVD player and TV will need to be able to handle this.  Most modern TVs sold in the U.K. will accept the 525-line video when connected directly on component inputs.

We got a Matsui one from Curry's for about 30. It needs a code, but we got that from the clerk who checked us out.

Since our CD players are having problems, we use the DVD player for that, too (it's hooked into our stereo system), and it works great.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.
