Ocean Village Holidays cruises
« on: May 18, 2007, 11:44:33 AM »
Has anyone ever done a cruise with Ocean Village Holidays?  We're looking at doing their Olives & Ouzo cruise (Greece and Turkey) this October.  We've never done a cruise before, so I'm not sure how to determine if this is a good cruise line.  Any recommendations for other Med cruise lines?  Thanks.

Well..it is rated as a 3* holiday..I have sold several of them in my time...and everyone comes back very happy. It is one of the companies that fall under the umbrella of the Total Cruise Solution..along with P&O and Princess. For your first cruise I think it would be a ideal one to start with. Don't do Island Cruises tho, they are like a floating Butlins or have been told by alot of ppl that have gone on it!

Another cruise line I can recommend is NCL we did one last year from Barcelona that did around the Italian coast. They have what is called freestyle cruising which mean you can eat when you want and not have to dress up. The ship we went on (The Jewel) had 13 restaurants on it. It is a fairly new ship. I really enjoyed that one.

Royal Caribbean also does the Med..but I would think they would be more expensive than Ocean Village.

I will give you as much info as possible!

Hiya
My mum, aunt and myself went on a Ocean Village Cruise a few years ago.. We loved it..
Its a casual cruise line so no big dress up for dinner unless of course you really want to..
Lots of things to do on the ship.. Lots of great tours to do when in port. The rooms were bigger and more spacious than we thought they would be.. We had never been on a cruise before.. I'd love to be able to afford to go on another one of their cruises..

That's very good to hear, thanks for your reply!  How and when did you find out about what tours were available when in port?  I'm curious as to the cost.

This is from the website

What can I do ashore?
There’s a wide range of Action Ashore activities available at each new destination, with everything from quad biking to beach days. As a guide, Action Ashore activities cost from around £30 for a half day and from around £45 for a full day (sometimes including lunch) depending on the type of activity. Children’s prices for some activities are 50% of the adult price (except where an admission price to an attraction applies).

A booklet containing full details and prices on all of the activities available on your holiday will be sent to you around 8-10 weeks before you travel. Please note that the Action Ashore activities listed for each destination are for guidance only and that some activities are only available during certain times during the season.

Children aged under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian on all trips (other than ‘Great Escapes’). These trips sell out quickly so to avoid disappointment why not reserve your trips before you depart – to book go online by selecting ‘Already Booked?’ then ‘Book Your Action Ashore’, call Reservations on 0845 075 0032 or complete and send back the booking form. No payment is required at this stage – you will receive confirmation of your excursion bookings (which you must bring with you), your tickets will be delivered direct to your cabin and the cost will be applied to your on board account. Alternatively, if you want to wait until you join the ship before booking your trips then you can do this at the Action Ashore desk on deck 5 of both ships - but please be aware that some activities may have already sold out!

If you’d prefer to make your own arrangements while you are in port then you’ll find the information we provide about each destination useful.

Each different cruise destination has differant action ashore things to do if you want to.
Hope that helps ..
Kaylesh

The only disadvantage of doing your own thing..is if you are extremely late getting back to the ship it will leave without you...and it is up to you to get yourself onto the next destination or home.

not to alarm you but this did happen to someone on the day we went to Rome last year. The taxi service they hired... the car broke down and as it was St. Peter's day that day there was no alternative car to finish the journey.

cruise-chat.com forum is extremely helpful as well similiar to this forum....

Have you booked your cruise, KK??

We're going on Ocean Village in October also. Several friends have recommended it.

We have booked a cruise since the start of this thread. We aren't doing Ocean Village tho. We are sailing on Celebrity Galaxy next April from San Juan

I am a member of cruise critics forum and it has been a great help and you can also join a roll call of the cruise you are booked on and meet some of the ppl booked on the same cruise.

We tried to, but unfortunately the cabins in our price range were sold out by the time we were ready to book.  I was amazed at how quickly they went!  We priced our options on May 15 and by May 31 the options were much more limited.  Unfortunately that was the only time frame that worked for us this year, so we're hoping to go next year instead.

Which cruise are you doing in October?

For anyone still thinking of a Greece cruise in October. Royal Caribbean has a special for October around Italy, Greece, Turkey. There are a few listed on their Hot Deals with different ports.

Sorry for the terribly long link!  :-[
