Pound sterling key on US laptop

I know this has been asked before but I didn't write down the information in a safe place.
How do we bring up the pound sterling symbol on a US laptop?

yeah i tried everything that was said on that link and it didn't work for mine. I have a Compaq laptop and using all those different variations didn't work.

Doesn't work for me, either... probably cause I can't find an 'Fn' key. Anyhow, easier to just write 'pound'.  Don't know why I have a $ symbol that's easy to use when I can't figure out how to type 'yen'.  Of course, I'm handicapped by my own stupidity...

Never worked for me either. My solution was to put a shortcut to the character map on my desktop and select the £ symbol from there. A bit time consuming but at least it works!

Just think how much trouble would have been saved if the change to decimal money had gone with one of the proposals to abandon the pound and create a British dollar!   

The standard would be to write GBP before the amount - just putting pound can be confusing as there are several countries who use a currency called pound.

Keystrokes, Option 3 = £ on my Mac (US keyboard configuration).

Alt-156 and/or Alt-0163 will do it on some PC keyboards, depending upon configuration.  That means hold down the Alt key while typing 156 or 0163 on the numeric pad, then release Alt.

Be aware that you can still have problems transferring documents due to varying character-encoding methods which may or may not be supported on other systems.
