New UK security rules?
« on: July 12, 2007, 08:55:39 AM »
I was online buying a ticket from Chicago to Nashville and I saw this posted on Travelocity:

Travel within and from the United Kingdom:

If you are traveling within the UK, or if you are departing the UK for another international destination, you must check ALL of your belongings. Wallets, IDs, and necessary medications are exceptions; these essential items must be carried in a plastic bag (clear bags are recommended).
Electronic items are not permitted on board any aircraft. Electronic items include laptops, mobile phones, and iPods.

What are we supposed to do for 8 hours? No books, purses, etc?

I travelled within the UK 2 days ago and there weren't any restrictions but liquids.  Is this new?

really?

about 2 years or so ago I flew a 9 hour flight from LHR to the caribbean.  because of the security measure i couldn't take a purse, lapotp, anything.  i hand carried a book & a few magazines that i bought AFTER security.  huge PITA.  i can't imagine how horrible that would be if you were travelling with kids.

i just checked www.baa.co.uk website and they don't mention this ban... http://www.heathrowairport.com/

i'd get secondary confirmation of these new rules.
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I just checked the BA website and I don't see anything about that. I wonder if that message on Travelocity is old (those restrictions were lifted a while ago unless they have been reinstated). I would give them a call to check.

Maybe. I'm going to call and find out. I just checked with Birmingham international (website) and they don't mention it either.

Hmmm....hopefully this is an old alert that they never bothered removing from their site. I'll give them a ring. I definately would be a nightmare taking the boys on an 8 hour flight with no gameboy  ::)

LOL! I couldn't imagine kids without their gameboys. Its difficult enough for us adults to deal with such a long flight.

That was my first thought.

A friend came back to the UK from Hungary yesterday...none of this applied.
