Crap! Really messed up with flights :(
« on: July 17, 2007, 03:46:36 PM »
I got my company to book us on a Sunday night flight arriving in Gatwick on a Monday morning because I was told they had to arrive in Gatwick on a weekday morning. Well, I didn't know that Atlanta doesn't process pets on Sunday???? Sh*t!

I have no idea what to do... we're supposed to pick up the keys to our rental house etc on the Monday afternoon and meet the Landlord.

I'm supposed to be flying out August 5th! I'm flying from london to sweden on august 9th and won't be back until the 15th (can't find a kennel for them to stay in yet either)... I start work on the 20th.

I live in Atlanta too so they have to be accompanied or I would get my parents to put them on a flight the next day.

Ideas? I feel like everything is collapsing around me :(

can you not just get your flight changed?  it'll probably cost something, but there's time to do it before the 5th.

Julia -- If you fly in on the 6th and out on the 9th to Sweden what was your plan for the dogs after you arrived in the UK?

Instead of changing your ticket would it be possible for your parents to watch the dogs for a bit and the travel with them to the UK at later date?

I'm sure it will work out

my plan for while we are in sweden -- pray i can find a kennel? LOL. Seriously though... i'm having a difficult time of it all with the pets.

OK so, we've called BA World Cargo in Atlanta and they're going to check with the supervisor tomorrow to see if we can hire someone trained to come in on the Sunday for a few hours.

Backup plan A: change tickets to Dulles and drive up there

Backup plan B: (not yet discussed with mom) have mom bring the dogs from ATL - LGW sometime after we come back from sweden. we'd pay for her airfare of course. I have no idea how it is when you check in the dogs so I don't know how much stress we'd be putting on her. We'd obviously handle the Animal Reception Centre bit in LGW. (Would htere be any problems that we weren't the ones on hte flight?)

its just a timing issue. I have to pick up the keys on the 6th to the house in London. The only thing else we could do is fly earlier which i guess is possible but isn't really  nice to my parents or work.

Too save you some stress I REALLY suggest you book the kennell before you arrive in the UK if you do bring the dogs over before you go to sweden.  Im sure some people on here will have an idea about kennels in the area or you can find one online.  Kennells and catteries REALLY fill up this time of year because its high season for holiday makers.

I've never travelled with pets but I would think it would be stressful to them (and you) plus to be left in a kennel just after arriving may be too much (for both of you). I'd ask Mom or someone else to watch the dogs until you had a chance to settled into your new digs and then have them come over at a later date. Good luck!

i just found and booked a place near stansted so we're good on this front, as long as we can get them there. Nothing big, right? LOL (that's nervous laughter btw)

OK, British Airways Cargo here in Atlanta said that they will take care of us... that they can do this type of thing as long as they have a heads up to get the proper staffing in.

So, they will have someone there on Sunday, August 5th for us :) Also, even though I offered to pay an extra fee they aren't charging me anything extra!

Woohoo! They are supposed to be sending me an email so I have proof they are ok with this in case the people we need to book the pets tickets with don't want to let us book due to the ATL/weekends thing.

Now just to figure out the timeline for that day.

Thanks! Its so easy to get very worked up about the problems that come up with the move but the pets stuff is very nervewracking.
