BTW, dulce de leche is VERY easy to make and tastes much better than the stuff they sell already made at the supermarket.  Just take a can of condensed milk (full fat, not the light stuff) and if you have a pressure cooker, cook it covered in water for 20 minutes after it starts hissing.  If you don't have a pressure cooker, cook it in boiling water for about an hour.  Open can....voila!

June - When we were in Madrid recently, my Brazilian friend was trying to explain this to me as well!  (The Brazilians eat loads of dulce de leche too - by the spoonful as dessert just by itself!)  But anyway, I don't have a pressure cooker - so to clarify, I would not open the can - but cook it in boiling water?  Wouldn't the can explode?
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

It will if you let the pot run dry! A friend is still cleaning her kitchen a couple of years later...  :o ;D

Put plenty of water in the pot (a bit pot) and don't let it run dry.  Do not open the can.  The can will not explode in the pot.  If you want a darker dulce de leche, just cook it for longer.   I grew up eating this stuff by the spoonful right out of the can!

Wow! I had never really thought about making it. I had no idea it was so easy. Thanks for the tip, June!

That is a very professional looking cake. You could do that as a business fo' sho!!
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

We just finished the last of the cake.  Dang it was good.  The bad news is, I don't have any more excuses for a cake!  No more birthdays or anything  :(  Although that may be a blessing in disguise because if I keep making cakes like this I will gain a million pounds!

My birthday is coming up this week.  ;)

Yes, in this twisted world I too will be baking my own birthday cake to bring to work but it won't look nearly as pretty as yours!
