Getting a loan on an FLR
« on: December 07, 2007, 05:52:04 PM »
has anyone succeeded in doing this? I applied for one today but the lady said she had to send all my information to head office for them to make a final decision.,because my FLR is valid until Jan 08. I explained about the FLR and getting an ILR but thats not good enough apparently! I'm worried I wont get the loan :(

I got one from Lloyds well before my FLR was up. I don't ever think it was an issue tbh. And I wasn't making great money at the time. But I'd been here for longer than most FLR people as I started out on a student visa.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I got the loan .

just some info for people on an FLR who apply for a loan. You'll need as much documents as possible with your NIN number on it, along with payslips, and a ton of letters with your name and address on it. Just having your payslip with your NIN wont be enough, I had to dig up a letter from the job centre when they sent me a letter with my NIN on it along with letters in my husbands name from HM Revenue with my name and NIN on it

I had no issues getting a rather big loan from Barclays last year, despite still being on FLR on my work permit (and therefore not being on the voter registrar, which is a biggie!). I'd been with Barclays since 1999 in my student days, though, and they approved me online with a really low rate and the money was in my account the next day. My English boyfriend, however, is self-employed and it literally took him months of chasing and arguing with Natwest who were so awful to him that it caused him to switch banks entirely. We thought it was funny that the "temporary foreigner" got given money so much more easily than the born-and-bred Englishman!
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

I guess it was a bit differant with me because my FLR ends in a month and I suppose they thought I might do a "runner"
