I was given as estimate of £2000 for just under 400 cubic feet.
June

I received the same quote from Robinson's. We are hardly taking anything back so I am going to revise our list and get the cost down. I figure that £2k equals $4k and we can more than easily replace items in the US rather than taking all of our stuff back. There are some items that I don't love so much that I must them when we go back.

Elizabeth, I haven't looked at the insurance yet but I was told by the rep at Robinson's that it may be cheaper to itemize your things rather than a blanket policy for the whole load as it may bring the cost down. Give them a call, I am sure they can help.

Thanks Jules.
After that particularly *blonde* post of mine (considering I've got less than 100 cu. feet), had I actually done the math, we're talking about £30 at most.  ::)
So now I do understand why the Robinson's guy originally said to lump it together.

£30 is great! If we did the lump sum insurance it would be £300 so that is why I am going to itemize to get the cost down but then again, I would love to get our stuff down to 200 cu. feet (instead of 400).

Best wishes on your move!  :)

I hate to put a damper on the positive reports on Robinsons but I recently had an experience with them worth considering.  Based on people's positive feedback, I used them on a move last week.  After telling them about a couch needing to be dismantle to take down a narrow stairwell, their rep said that if it was a wooden frame, their people can do it.  We didn't retain an upholsterer for this purpose due to Robinsons representation.  The move day arrived and the workers said they can't touch upholstered furniture due to potential liability.  This forced us to scramble for anyone at late notice.  Robinsons washed their hands and hid behind their contract, providing no help whatsoever when we were stressed out and desperate.  On our own, my wife and I ultimately located someone to make it possible to get the sofa down the stairs but we aren't sure if the sofa will be usable once again; we have to get a US upholsterer to advise us after it arrives.

Robinsons may be a fine company if problems don't arise but they turn tail when the chips are down and you need help the most.  I can't recommend them.

Sorry to hear your experience Jaybo... how did you solve the situation?

It's a bit late for me, I don't have any furniture or anything that needs dismantling, and I can't beat the cost, so fingers crossed.  The good reviews outweigh the bad, so hopefully I'll be okay.
