they do have muffins here- but they're not nearly as "craggy". no nookes & crannies for the butter.

I do cheat a bit - I have an actual Thomas's English Muffin splitter that helps make more nooks & crannies than simply slicing with a bread knife...

It's like two forks attached and you plunge it into the muffin, then split them apart - gently!  My mother had it when I was a kid, and when I moved to the UK she let me have it.

Thomas' English Muffins rule, the supermarkets try over here but they dont have the right type of nooks and crannies.

I'll have to look later - can't see that link during non-lunch hours from work!  But it's probably close.
