Suggestion for a sticky topic here...
« on: March 20, 2004, 07:21:13 PM »
In case you get bored Graham. ;)
How about a sticky topic for hotel recommendations? I'm thinking specifically of London since that's an obvious llocation for people wanting to find a hotel that someone else has been to and can vouch for... but other areas could be included as well, and people can just post additions to the thread as they stay in places?

Whatcha think?

OOh!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  You clever girl.  That would've helped me tremendously.  I posted here for similar information, but it would've been great to already have a somewhat compiled database of user reviews here :)

I rarely get bored, Sarah ....  ;D

Perhaps the travel subject is peculiary suited to having one or two sticky topics; I'll put one up, for "UK (including London)" and we'll see how it goes.  I take it you might have some good places?  I know I have one as a starter!

Should I also update those travel links I started a while back and bring them up to the top in a sticky thread - where to get travel information, UK < - > USA route listing, etc,  or was that a big of a "damp squib" that's best forgotten?

I would do, except for the fact that I'm rather cheap, and have yet to stay in anything but seedy establishments. ;) I certainly wouldn't recommend any of them except to perhaps a sworn enemy of mine ;)

What we could do though, is have a list of any/all hotels we've visited.  So that as well as getting recommendations, we can also warn each other of ones to stay clear of.  Yes? No?  Just a (rather bad) thought :)

I would love to have a sort of "rolling resource" here that people can update / contribute to and data lasts for a year or two. But ... the bulletin-board-and-thread structure here is designed for a "magazine" type discussion where a subject crops up and fades out in a week or two. The best compromise (just my opinion) is to have one or two sticky threads - much more than that and the original purpose of the board - discussions / travel questions - gets hidden.

You have set me thinking though ... there is the UK info area of the web site, but alas that's manually (or rather womanually) updated by Leah and I wouldn't want to ask her to put up stuff on anything like a frequent basis.  I'll keep thinking ...

We'll be staying at a new (for us) hotel in early May when my best friend comes to visit and we go to the Embassy to do all the new-baby things, I'll be sure to put it in the sticky thread if it's good!
