US Visa Question
« on: August 29, 2007, 08:17:29 PM »
I know this kind of goes the other way but people here seem so knowledgable that I figured it was worth a shot...

We are settled in the UK currently but often think about moving back to the US at some point.  What we are wondering is if we can get my husband a visa for the states even though we have no immediate plans to move back.

We just thought it would be nice if he had it so he could keep his eyes out for work over there and not have to worry about going through the visa process then.

Anybody know the answer to this or where I might be able to find the answer?  I looked on a few US visa sites but didn't get very far :P

Sorry, I have found some other posts on this topic.  I was looking in the wrong forums :-[

I am still amazingly confused but feel free to ignore my previous post:-)

That forum offers advice for people who are looking to move from the UK to the USA.  It may be more helpful.

There is no point in applying for a spouse visa for the US until, roughly, six months before you wish to leave.

If you are eligible to file the I-130 in the UK, through the DHS office at the US Embassy then you will find it much faster than if you are forced to file through one of the service centres in the US.

Either way, it takes much longer to get a US spousal visa than a UK one - be prepared.

Once approved the visa is valid for six months.
