Nappies for rags
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:48:27 PM »
Hi

I'm slightly embarrassed asking this question, as I have no children, but I've always found that real nappies (diapers) make the best possible rags. The ones I dragged over from the US 3 years ago are now in tatters, so I'm wondering: where in the UK would one go to get these? Are there nappy services that sell used ones? Something else?

thanks

ron

You could get muslin squares.  They are easy to find and my friend uses them that way as well now that her child is older.  They are used more for spit-ups for baby not nappies, but they do work.

I think you can get muslin really cheap in fabric stores as well.

Mothercare sells the old fashioned kind of terry towelling nappies if that's what you mean. I agree about them being good for dusters etc! And no need to be embarrassed. Before I was a parent I never knew how great Napisan was for washing whites in!  ;D

If you're looking for the diaper service style rectangles that are thicker down the cener and waffle up after washing and drying, they're called prefolds.  You can Google "prefold nappies" to find online distributors.  This place appears to offer free shipping (I've never ordered from them though): http://www.time2changeuk.com/smallprefoldnappies.html#
